Annunciation Catholic School, established in 1963, is the only parochial school in the Golden Triangle with dual accreditations from the Mississippi Department of Education and AdvancEd. Currently serving over 220 students in the Golden Triangle and west Alabama, our students represent a range of cultural and economic diversity. Serving grades K4 through 8th grade, an emphasis is placed on service to others and a rigorous curriculum, which cultivates life-long learners who are not only head smart but also heart smart.
ACS was originally started as a mission school of the Annunciation Catholic Church in Columbus, MS. Since 2013, they have offered bus transportation to and from Starkville, MS. Currently they have just over 50 students who reside in Starkville, and the majority of our Starkville families are members of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. ACS also partners with St. Joseph to provide after school care for Starkville families until 5:30 p.m. each weekday.
Because they focus on the whole child through the autonomous learner model, Annunciation Catholic School offers differentiated instruction based on the needs of each individual child. Through preparation for the ACT Aspire Test, ACS promotes college readiness and prepares students for careers in competitive fields.In addition to core subjects, all students also attend Spanish, computer technology, physical education, art, theater/music, and library.Students can opt into extracurricular activities such as Robotics, Chess, Voice & Piano lessons.Middle School students maintaining an exceptional GPA have the opportunity to join Junior Beta Club.
A new initiative amongst Catholic schools is S.T.R.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics).STREAM is a framework for a creative approach to delivering educational standards. In other words, STREAM is an innovative way of presenting concepts to students so as to maximize engagement, increase rigor, and to approach problem-solving with an understanding of the rights and responsibilities of living in an interconnected digital world.
While a national trend is to cut funding to arts education, Annunciation Catholic School is bolstering its arts education through the Arts Captivating Spirits program. Through the use of art (including performing art), Arts Captivating Spirits is an instructional strategy that enriches the cultural education of our students and enhances all subject areas. Teachers were specifically trained to implement this unique approach throughout our school.
Annunciation Catholic School establishes a Christ-centered environment where students can worship and learn biblical teachings.Coupled with the S.T.R.E.A.M. initiative, students learn about empathy and social justice and how these affect professionals in S.T.R.E.A.M. fields.
