"God has bestowed upon his people the gift of song. God dwells within each human person, in the place where music takes its source. Indeed, God, the giver of song, is present whenever his people sing his praises." -- Sing to the Lord: Music in Divine Worship, Paragraph #1
The purpose of our music ministry is to assist the congregation in active participation of the Liturgy and enliven and enrich the worship of all present. We would like to encourage anyone with any musical talents to give of yourselves in this very important ministry.
Contact Maria Sherman to be a part of the 9 AM Choir, Tom Hannigan for the 11:30 AM Choir, and Rhett Fereday to join the 5:30 PM Choir. If you're not sure which Choir you would like to be a part of, contact the Parish Office at (662) 323-2257.
"The people of God sing. After escaping from the Egyptians and crossing the Red Sea, the people of Israel sang a song to the lord. Miriam the prophet, Aaron's sister, took a drum in her hand, and all the women followed her, with drums and dancing. Miriam sang to them: 'Sing to the Lord, for he is highly exalted.' In Colossians 3:16, it is written 'let the word of Christ dwell in you richly singing psalms and spiritual songs.' The members of the choir ask you to join our ministry. We see ourselves not as performers but as volunteers who lead corporate worship. Martin Luther wrote the gift of music is a precious treasure given to us by God. A person who gives this some thought and yet does not regard music as a marvelous creation of God, must be a clodhopper indeed... The gift of language combined with the gift of song was given that we should proclaim the word of God through music. "
