“The faithful, whether religious or lay, who are authorized as extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist can distribute Communion only when there is no priest, deacon or acolyte, when the priest is impeded by illness or advanced age, or when the number of the faithful going to Communion is so large as to make the celebration of the Mass excessively long.” -- Inaestimabile Donum, Paragraph # 10.
At St. Joseph, this ministry is made up of a group of lay men and women who assist the clergy with the distribution of Holy Communion at weekend Masses and some daily Masses. These lay ministers also distribute Holy Communion to our homebound parishioners bringing them great spiritual comfort.
It is a great privilege and gift to be a part of this ministry. There are certain requirements that we ask these lay ministers to meet. There is an annual instructional class that we ask them to attend. If you are interested in this ministry or if you are willing to serve, please contact the Parish Office at (662) 323-2257
