A Hospitality Minister's smile of encouragement, kind words, or guide to a welcoming pew make such a difference in our Church Family. This ministry is entrusted with helping promote a sense of welcome and belonging to all of the faithful gathered for worship. Hospitality Ministers assist parishioners in finding seats in the church and are always ready to offer direction and assistance to visitors and others who need help. These ministers are usually the first point of contact for the celebration of the Eucharistic Liturgy. Because of this, these ministers should take steps to be living representatives of the Mission Statement of our parish and "reflect God in serving others."
If you are interesetd in becoming an usher please contact the Parish Office at (662) 323-2257.
Here's the experience that one of our Hospitality Ministers:
"A church usher is a person who helps ensure a smoothly run Mass service, together with the sacristan, lectors, Eucharistic ministers, altar server, deacons, and of course the priest. It is very rewarding to feel helpful and to achieve together something so great as a well-conducted Mass, even though the contribution of an usher is so small. The specific responsibilities of an usher include greeting people as they arrive for the service, helping to sit people who came late, assisting people with special needs, and collecting the offering. Each of the tasks is really easy, anyone can do that, and there is always the sacristan ready to help if something unusual happens.
Another aspect of being an usher is the participation in the church community. After a while, after greeting everybody entering the church each Sunday you serve, you start knowing people, remember their faces, and conversely, people start knowing you. It becomes easy to start a conversation. The church becomes a very friendly place, your second home!"
